Dawn Inside the Yoshiwara
Date: 4/1857
“In one of the most beautifully executed prints of the entire series, Hiroshige has here placed us in a strangely evocative zone of transition, as dawn begins to break in the Yoshiwara licensed quarter”. (Henry Smith II). We see the coming of the dawn as three figures in the middle distance prepare for the departure of a guest, who is bid farewell by the courtesan herself, dressed in bright red.
