Suijin Forest by the Sumida River
Date: Nov. 10, 1884 (Meiji 17)
A strong rain shower has just passed over the house, from which veranda we view the Sumida River and Minakami Forest in the distance. A Chinese lute is set against a pillar and a music notes lie on the floor. This instrument became popular in Japan around 1884 (Meiji 16) again. Some other Chinese things such as pots and cups were considered to be modern and fashionable at that time.
